
A beginning shepherd program is being planned for May 1 by the Nebraska Sheep and Goat Producers Association and Nebraska Extension.
The program will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Veggie Palace/4-H Livestock Area at the Pierce County Fairgrounds in Pierce, Neb. It will include numerous programs for sheep producers, with a focus on education for new producers.
The daylong program includes a session on grazing by Randy Saner, Nebraska Extension educator at North Platte. Rachel Gibb with offer a presentation on beginning flock health. Michael Littlefield is planning a shearing demonstration.
There also will be a panel of sheep producers who can answer questions from participants, plus a hoof trimming demonstration. Lunch will be provided.
Registrations are due by April 25. The cost for nonmembers of the Nebraska Sheep and Goat Producers Association is $35. Members will pay $25. There is a fee of $10 per each additional person from the same farm. The cost to students and online participants is $15. Day-of registration will cost $45 for nonmembers and $35 for members.
