The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a Wild Pig Management Workshop for landowners May 7 in Lincoln.
The free workshop will be from 8:15 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Lincoln Community Hall, 1066 Main Ave. On-site registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.
Preregistration is requested by April 30 by contacting Geri Kline, AgriLife Extension agent for agriculture and natural resources in Lee County, at 979-542-2753. An optional catered luncheon will be available for $10.

“Wild pigs continue to be an issue for everyone in Texas, not just for farmers and ranchers,” said Josh Helcel, AgriLife Extension associate with the Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute and a workshop speaker. “In addition to their damage to agricultural production, wild pigs often contribute bacteria to our water systems and negatively impact native species and habitat.”
Workshop topics will include wild pig biology; impacts and control techniques; laws and regulations for wild pigs; safety and disease concerns; and transportation regulations. There also will be a demonstration on how to snare and trap wild pigs.
Additional speakers will include Tommy Barton, Texas Animal Health Commission Region 7 director; Jacob Hetzel, Texas Wildlife Services wildlife biologist; and Adam Broll, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game warden.
Up to four Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered for private pesticide applicator licensees in the general and laws and regulations categories.
